Sofia recently earned a Master 2 degree in Fundamental Microbiology and Bacteriology from Sorbonne University. During her studies in France and Greece, she worked on several topics in molecular and genetic, environmental, and human microbiology. Her current research focuses on the effect of β-lactams on peptidoglycan release in Escherichia coli, and she hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of antibiotic resistance, particularly bacterial resistance mechanisms and their impact on the gut microbiome. A resident of the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, she is also interested in the scientific and community life within the Cité. She is a co-founder of Gene & Tonic, a community for life scientists at the Cité, a project also supported by the Resident Initiatives Fund.
